Why Ashwagandha Should Be a Part of Your Nutrition Plan

If you’re looking for a natural way to boost your energy levels, balance your hormones, and improve your overall health, then you should definitely consider adding ashwagandha to your supplement routine. This powerful herb has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to treat a variety of conditions, and it has been shown to be effective in reducing stress, improving cognitive function, and increasing energy levels.

So, what is ashwagandha and how can it help you?

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a naturally occurring herb that originates from India. It has been used for over 2000 years as a tonic to promote longevity and vitality by Ayurvedic practitioners. This powerful plant has been referenced in many ancient texts including the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta, and Bhagavad-Gita.

The word “ashwagandha” translates to “horse smell,” which refers to the unique odor of the root when dried. In traditional medicine, ashwagandha has been used as both a tonic and herb. As a tonic, it is usually prepared in hot drinks or capsules that are taken daily for general health maintenance and disease prevention. As an herb, it’s commonly prepared as a powder or extract and taken in larger doses to treat specific conditions.

Due to its long history of use, ashwagandha is often thought of as a “natural” remedy for boosting energy levels and improving overall health. While it’s true that ashwagandha can provide many benefits, it’s important to remember that this isn’t a magic pill or cure all. In order for ashwagandha to be effective, you need to take it consistently over time (at least 3 months).

Why Take Ashwagandha?

There are many reasons why you might want to add ashwagandha to your daily supplement routine. Here are just a few:

It’s 100% natural and free of side effects – unlike many over-the-counter (OTC) energy boosters, ashwagandha is completely safe and doesn’t cause any negative side effects. In fact, it can actually improve your overall health by reducing stress and improving your sleep quality. Additionally, unlike many over-the-counter (OTC) energy boosters, ashwagandha is completely safe and doesn’t cause any negative side effects. It’s extremely effective – numerous clinical trials have shown that this herb has a significant impact on a variety of conditions including anxiety, depression, cognitive function, Alzheimer’s disease, and more.

I personally take Ashwagandha twice daily, once with my first cup of coffee in the morning and once an hour before bedtime. Why those times? Coffee initiates a cortisol response which is ok in the morning, but if you are like most Americans, your stress levels are already too high, so limiting the stress response with Ashwagandha will help your hormones be in better balance.  This is the brand I use for ashwagandha.
